HISTORY:
“Marqués de Tosos” is the prestige line created by San Valero in 1984. The Gran Reserva designation in that line is its top-tier expression, representing the winery’s greatest craftsmanship in long barrel and bottle ageing. The 2013 vintage won a gold medal at Mundus Vini 2020, indicating excellent performance after ageing.
BLEND & AGING:
Blend of varieties (Tempranillo primarily, plus others like Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon); fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature; aged for at least 60 months total, including minimum 18 months in oak barrels, followed by bottle ageing prior to release.
AROMA (NOSE):
Aromas of ripe red and dark fruits (plum, cherry); with oak-derived vanilla, toasty wood and spice; ageing contributes leather and slight earthy notes
TASTE (PALATE):
Full-bodied; medium-to-thick body; mature, refined tannins; acidity good to support and balance; structure firm and layered; palate deep with complexity; smoothness from bottle ageing.
FINISH:
Long finish; fruit mingled with oak and spice; trailing vanilla and toasted wood; maturity gives smoothness and complexity
FLAVOR:
Flavor is mature and rounded; red berry and plum notes with complexity from ageing; oak, spice, and vanilla/toast blend well with fruit; nuanced taste with aged character.
FOOD PAIRING:
Pairs well with red meats (beef, lamb), roasted dishes, game meats, mature cheeses; works nicely with stews or richly flavored spiced dishes
